"Building a Knowledge Network for Sustainable Practices in the Jewellery Industry"
This talk, given by two of our co-founders, Tatjana Li and Véronique Ribbink, took the audience inside the Truly Precious community and the real-world challenges of creating transparency across a fragmented global supply chain. Tatjana outlined why sustainability in jewellery requires systemic solutions rather than isolated efforts, and how our online community has become a space where a gem cutter in Sri Lanka can exchange knowledge with a designer in Berlin, and a small-scale miner in Colombia can find resources on fair labour practices. She shared three key lessons from building the network: the enormous hunger for knowledge (especially among smaller businesses without access to consultants and experts), the importance of trust as the foundation of honest exchange, and the surprising value of local, practice-based knowledge that often goes unrecognised.

The talk then shifted to a candid conversation with Véronique, who shared her personal journey from career-changer to jewellery maker — how a single conversation with a gemstone dealer in 2020 changed her perspective on sourcing, and why knowing the story behind every stone she works with has become central to her craft. Together, Tatjana and Véronique made the case that transparency and ethics aren't obstacles to beauty, but the foundation of true value — and that real change happens one stone, one piece, one conversation at a time.

That conversation continues every day in the Truly Precious community, where jewellery professionals from across the supply chain share knowledge, challenge assumptions, and support each other. Join us — it's free, and your perspective matters.
